Engage Secures Management of IP•Tube Product Line
Aptos, CA. – February 26, 2008: Engage Communication integrates Secure Socket Shell management into IPTube product line. The integration of SSH ensures that access to the management interface of the IP•Tube is limited to the individuals with the encryption key.
The IP•Tube product line is primarily used to convert T1, T3, E1, E3, RS232, RS530, V.35 and SS7 Telecommunication connections, which employ leased circuits, into IP packets for that extend the circuit over Ethernet based LAN/WAN/MAN wired and wireless networks. Secondarily the IP•Tube is used to automatically backup circuits over packet networks with the Link Protection option.
One of the most dramatic cost savings of transporting Circuit based communications across Packet based networks is accomplished when Public Networks are employed. Access to Public or Shared networks is open to those that derive validity in violating. Inappropriate access to the configuration parameters of the IP•Tube can result in disruption of Telecommunication Service for an entire region.
“A major Wireless Service provider was motivated by the cost savings of utilizing DSL Internet connections to backhaul Cellular Base Stations to Base Station Controllers but was concerned about the vulnerability of an unencrypted management interface.” said Mark Doyle Engage Communication President. “The size of the opportunity and strategic differentiation made it a priority for us to implement SSH.”
Engage’s Secure Socket Shell, which is based upon industry proven Open SSH and FIPS 140 approved Open SSL version 2.0, provides secure encrypted communications between SSH clients such as OpenSSH, SecureCRT, and PuTTY and the IPTube’s Command Line Interface over insecure Internet Protocol networks. Engage’s SSH implements Diffie-Hellman Group1/14 key exchange and strong integrity checking via MAC SHA1/SHA1-96 with Cipher AES-128 and 3DES; and DSS / OpenSSH public key format.
Engage Communication, founded in 1989, has ROHS compliant solutions that enable organizations to route, bridge, encrypt, and auto protect Voice/Video/Data Networks and to take advantage of the lower costs and flexibility associated with Packet transport while preserving their investment in Circuit based premises equipment such as: PBXs, Phone Switches, Voice and Data Multiplexers, Video and Audio Codecs, and Encryptors...
