Engage Communication Preserves Investment in Analog Land Mobile Radio Infrastructure with ROI measured in weeks

Aptos, CA – January 29, 2015
Engage Communication, a leading provider of specialized solutions that connect, protect and secure communication networks, delivers the IPTube VF. The IPTube VF is a Voice Frequency full duplex 4 Wire Analog Circuit to Packet Converter used by State and Local Public Safety organizations to preserve their investment in analog Land Mobile Radio (LMR) infrastructure and field radios; and eliminate expensive leased analog backhaul circuits.

Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems provide critical mobile and portable real time communications for State and Local Public Safety First Responders such as Police and Firefighters. Many of these systems use analog field radios and analog wireline leased circuits for tower backhaul. As an organization’s annual cost for these leased circuits approaches hundreds of thousands of dollars or more, and telecommunication service providers plan retirement of these circuits; Public Safety organizations are increasingly concerned about the risk of insufficient maintenance, increased cost, and ultimately end-of-life for these circuits.

The IPTube VF is a proven and cost effective alternative for LMR tower backhaul. It digitizes the analog signal, encapsulates it in to IP packets, and retains timing information across the link, for seamless replication of the analog signal at the other end. Existing radio, tower and head-end infrastructure and operating procedures are maintained while reducing overall operational costs.

For LMR towers with access to an organizations intranet (i.e. rooftop of a networked facility), the monthly backhaul costs using the IPTube VF are virtually $0. Other packet services such as DSL, Cable, and 4G/LTE cellular can also be used and in many cases cost less than $50 per month. The Return On Investment of employing the IPTube VF to eliminate leased 4-wire analog circuits is measured in weeks.

“The IPTube VF is another example of Engage’s commitment to provide transparent connectivity of legacy communications equipment over packet networks,” said Mark Doyle, Engage President and CEO. “Our ever increasing suite of interfaces includes Serial, T1, E1, T3, E3, Layer 2, 202T Bell Modem and now VF and are increasingly used in first responder, military, government, utility and many other applications.”

The IPTube VF circuit to packet converter is currently shipping and can be configured with advanced AES 256 bit key encryption for secure applications.
