Engage Ships WAN Router with
an Integrated T1/Fractional T1 DSU/CSU
APTOS, Calif., August 5, 1995 -- The ExpressRouter, Engage
Communication's expandable branch office/Internet access
router is now available with an integrated T1/Fractional
T1 DSU/CSU interface. The new ExpressRouter-T1, including
the internal DSU/CSU, is priced at $2995.
The integration of this telecommunication
interface into the router enables Engage to: -- Offer
a complete LAN to T1 WAN solution in a modem size enclosure
for less than $3,000; -- Distill the complexity of T1
installation to a single concise configuration screen;
-- Support network managed diagnostics such as Local and
Remote loopbacks. "We expect even more dramatic success
with the integration of the T1/Frac T1 DSU/CSU into the
ExpressRouter-T1 than we have had with the integration
of the 56k DSU/CSU into the ExpressRouter-DDS, due to
the much needed simplification of T1/Fractional T1 installations.
"The entire installation of
the ExpressRouter-T1 can be done with our EngageView software
or with Telnet," says Engage president Mark Doyle.
"Also, the cost of T1/FracT1 lines have become affordable
for a broad spectrum of organizations - especially Internet
Access via Frame Relay at configurable fractions - such
as 128/384/768kilobits - of T1's 1,544,000 bits per second.
Even dedicated full T1 interconnections supported by the
same Central Office can be as low as $330/month."
The ExpressRouter-T1 is an unrivaled combination of low
price-point, field expandability to 3 WAN ports (V.35/RS530/RS232),
and RISC performance for speeds up to T1 (or E1).
Protocol support for TCP/IP, IPX,
AppleTalk, Frame Relay, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP),
SNMP, and Telnet is included at no additional cost. Each
ExpressRouter also ships with EngageView, the graphical
management software for Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX platforms.
For LAN to T1 WAN applications, this integrated solution
eliminates the significant costs and time involved with
installing and supporting a multiple vendor solution.
Also, the second and third WAN
ports may be used for ISDN dial-in or back-up via a 128
or 512kilobit terminal adapter. The T1/FracT1 DSU/CSU
option card has complete T1 support: ESF (AT&T/ANSI)/D4
Framing; B8ZS/AMI Data Format; 56/64k one to twenty four
DS0s; Continuous/Alternate Channels; Loopup/down code
transmission and detection. Other ExpressRouter models
are also available.
The base ExpressRouter supports
1-3 WAN ports and starts at $1795; the ExpressRouter-DDS
includes an integrated 56k DSU/CSU is priced at $2295;
the ExpressRouter ISDN 1 BRI bundle is priced at $1995;
the ExpressRouter ISDN 4 BRI bundle is priced at $3995;
