Cellular Base Station Backhaul

IP data service providers are strategically focused on the cellular backhaul business as they have a cost basis that is a fraction of a leased T1/E circuit. Cell site access to aggressively priced IP services delivered via xDSL, Optical Ethernet, HFC Cable Modem, Wireless Ethernet, and PLC Power Line Ethernet is becoming ubiquitous.

Engage Gets Chubby on Cellular Base Station Back Haul

Aptos, CA. – February 20th, 2007: Engage Communication’s CHUB-E1s, a 60 E1 5U Chassis, are deployed by a major Wireless Carrier to provide for the aggregation of Base Station E1 circuits that are extended over DSL and Metro Ethernet WAN packet networks.

The Alternator, Compression, Protector, and Assured Delivery capabilities of Engage’s IPTube enable the Wireless Mobile Operator to utilize widely available low cost DSL Internet connections to backhaul the Base Station’s E1 circuits.

The Back Haul over Packet cost savings and deployment flexibility have put the Mobile Operator at a strategic advantage in regard to service delivery. The E1 leased costs made up a significant portion of the monthly operating expenses and now they have been reduced by as much as 75%. Their return on investment is measured in weeks and the Mobile Operator is not feeding their competition with leased line service fees.

In order to accommodate the Dynamic Addressing of the DSL connections and to reduce the installation complexity, Engage enhanced the IPTube with Dynamic DNS. The Base Station IPTube is configured with a location Name and is dynamically interconnected to the central location CHUBE-E1 port by the DDNS.

The CHUB provides Multi-Site Enterprises with a Carrier Class rack mountable chassis for central sites. The CHUB-E1 Chassis is designed to accommodate from 1 to 15 Networking, Telecommunication or Encryption modules from Engage Communication IPTube, IPExpress, BlackBond or BlackDoor product lines.

The primary application is to compactly concentrate up to 60 T1 or E1 circuits that are extended over packetized networks such as Gigabit Ethernet, MPLS, Metro Ethernet, Cable HFC, xDSL, EPON/GPON, or fixed wireless, including WiMAX.

The CHUB is a 5U chassis suitable for ETSI or ANSI installations. The CHUB’s Power slot accommodates 2 Hot Swappable Commercial, Industrial or Military Grade Off The Shelf 1U Chassis Power modules that are available as Universal 90/240 VAC 50/60 Hz, Isolated -48 VDC, or 12 to 30 VDC.

Engage Communication, founded in 1989, has ROHS compliant solutions that enable organizations to route, bridge, encrypt, and auto protect Voice/Video/Data Networks and to take advantage of the lower costs and flexibility associated with Packet transport while preserving their investment in Circuit based premises equipment such as: PBXs, Phone Switches, Voice and Data Multiplexors, Video and Audio Codecs, and Encryptors...
